Dog Food Storage Containers

Press the lid and you hear the air leave with a soft pfff, and the kibble inside stays fresh weeks longer while the smell stays out of your kitchen.

Airtight Dog Food Containers

Open the cupboard, get hit by a wall of kibble smell, and there is half a bag going stale with the top rolled over. Dry pet food starts losing its fats and flavour the moment the bag is opened, and an open bag is an invitation to ants and pantry pests. A PawVac shuts all of that down in one move. Press the lid, hear the air leave, and the vacuum seal holds air, moisture and smell out. The food stays as fresh as the day you opened it, and the kitchen stops smelling of dog dinner.

The one thing that decides which to buy

Match the size to how fast your pet gets through it, not to the bag on the shelf. Food kept sealed only stays fresh if you work through it in a few weeks, so buy the size that holds what your pet eats in that window. Every PawVac shares the same 2-way valve and BPA-free body, so the only real choice is capacity.

Short version: treats and small dogs, the 0.57 L. A big breed, the 2.35 L. Buying kibble by the sack, go to the bulk containers, which hold up to 2.5 kg without the paw print.

What we carry

  • PawVac 0.29L and 0.57L. The treat sizes: training snacks, a counter jar, on-the-go portions. See the 0.57L.
  • PawVac 1.3L and 2.35L. The meal sizes, for a big breed's daily kibble or a multi-pet home, with the most odour control. See the 2.35L.
  • Works for every pet. Cat food, rabbit food and bird seed store the same way, and the smaller sizes double as a training-treat jar.
  • Bigger than 680 g? The bulk containers hold up to 2.5 kg with the same seal, just without the paw design.

Getting it right

Decant the whole bag when you open it rather than topping up, so the food spends its life sealed instead of in a folded sack. Scoop with a dry scoop and press the lid back down each time, because the seal only works when it is closed. Keep the container out of direct sun and off the floor by the radiator, since heat turns the fats in kibble faster than anything. And hand-wash it, drying it fully before you refill, because a damp interior is what lets food spoil.

Common questions

Should dog food be kept in an airtight container?

Yes. The fats in kibble oxidise once the bag is open, which is what makes old food smell rancid and taste flat, and dogs notice before you do. An airtight lid keeps new air out; a PawVac also takes out the air already inside, so the food stays fresh weeks longer and the smell stays in the container instead of the room. Keep the original bag's batch and best-before information handy if you like, then decant the food itself.

What is the best airtight container for dog food?

One that seals air out, keeps light off the food, and shuts the smell in, sized to how fast your pet eats. A folded bag or a clip does none of the three. A PawVac presses the air out with the 2-way valve and holds it out between meals, so the kibble keeps its fats and its smell keeps to itself. Match the 0.57L to a small dog and the 2.35L to a big one.

Does it keep the smell in?

Sealed, it keeps kibble smell shut in the container rather than filling the cupboard or the kitchen, which is the thing owners of strong-smelling food notice first. The same seal that keeps air off the food keeps its odour from drifting out. It holds while the lid is pressed shut, so close it after each scoop rather than leaving it open on the counter.

Will it keep pests out of the food?

Yes, an airtight container is the simplest defence against the ants and pantry pests that get into an open bag. Sealing the air out also stops the food-mite larvae that ride in on dry food from hatching, which matters if your dog's skin reacts to them. Store the container somewhere cool and dry and the sealed food stays out of reach of anything that would otherwise find it.

Is it a true vacuum?

No, and we would rather say so plainly. It is a strong partial vacuum from a one-button airlock, not a motor. Pressing the lid takes out most of the air around the food, which is the part that keeps it fresh, but it is not a laboratory vacuum. For everyday pet food that is exactly what you want: enough to slow the fats oxidising, with nothing to plug in or fuss over.

Can I use it for cat food or bird seed?

Yes. The PawVac is not dog-specific, only the paw print is. Cat food, rabbit food, bird seed and any dry pet food store the same way, and the seal keeps them all fresh and pest-free. The smaller 0.29L suits treats and training snacks for any animal; the larger sizes hold a proper meal supply.
